Prac for Life Online

Designed for Professional Counselling Training
and Personal Development

P.R.A.C. for Life Online Last year, Clearmind launched the Prac Online program with great success. Now, students from around the world can train online to become a counsellor. We created a virtual classroom using video conferencing software. This means that our teachers here in Vancouver are able to teach, use Power Point, show videos, and see and hear students who are located around the world!

As with the face-to-face classroom in Vancouver, the online counsellor training/personal development program supports break-out rooms, where the teacher can assign two to four students to their own virtual room to do one-on-one work or other Prac processes. Teachers can also assign one of our Prac 2 or Prac 3 mentors to assist in one of these break out rooms. The classes can even be recorded and archived for students that cannot attend a class.

Students who reside in the same area have the option of gathering together to meet for the class or attending the class individually. The program is integrated with our Prac counsellor training/personal development program here in Vancouver, which means that the online class will benefit from the support of not only teachers here in Vancouver, but also our senior Prac students who are fulfilling their practicum hours by supporting Prac 1 students.

All each student needs is a computer with a webcam, headset with an integrated microphone, and high speed internet access to enter the online classroom seamlessly. Clearmind teachers, well versed in technology, are available to assist students in setting up their computer system to connect to the class.

We have been very cautious in the launch of this program, in order to ensure the integrity of this profound curriculum. We needed to be certain that the experiential and personal contact components of Prac could translate into an online counsellor training program before we would endorse it. We have achieved these goals by careful choice of the video conference software and by building in a residential component to cover the practicum hours required to become a certified counsellor.

As with the face-to-face Prac program in Vancouver, the Prac Online program can be taken for one, two or three years. The first year is the Personal Growth and Self Study component of the program.

Students who complete the entire three years are qualified to apply to the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA) for full professional membership, and will receive a graduating diploma from Clearmind. Students who register with the CPCA become Registered Professional Counsellors, with the right to use the RPC designation. Over the last 5 years, 85% of our graduates who became RPC's ended up employed in the helping professions!

Students who wish to complete the entire program must also attend the Rude Awakening here in Vancouver twice: once as an attendee and once as an assistant, in order to complete both the personal therapeutic component and the supervised hours required for the Practicum. Students registered in the Prac Online program would be required to complete Assistants Training as well as assisting at Clearmind workshops in their area. For those that have already attended and/or assisted the Rude Awakening, you already have those hours completed!

Free Introduction Lecture on PRAC for Life

Whether you've been formally trained or not, you are already a counsellor. What does this mean? How can you know if you are helping or hurting? How can you become more effective at helping? Duane and Catherine answered these questions, and more, at their lecture "Are You Helping or Hurting?" To learn more about the PRAC for Life program you can view the lecture online.

Prac Online Days and Hours

The Prac Online class meets once a week, in the evening for those who are are in Europe, and during the day for those here in Canada. Teachers log on at 9 am Vancouver time, noon Toronto time, 5 PM UK time and 6 PM Sweden or Netherlands time. The class is 5 hours in length and is 8 months in duration, beginning this fall, with breaks at Christmas and Spring. Each year, the times are reviewed once we compile the list of where the students are located.

Days of the week for the 2012/2013 year have not yet been fixed.

What Students are Saying about Prac Online

"When I found out about the three year PRAC course, I was keen to sign up, but it was impossible because we don't live in Vancouver! So, I jumped at the chance to join an online version. Initially, I wondered how it would work as a group, because we are only ever looking at virtual pictures of each other. However, the class works very well indeed; we are cohesive. The facilitators are skilled technically as well as educationally. The syllabus is so interesting and deep. I am enjoying the theoretical and factual side as well. The online class is one five-hour session a week (recorded and available only to participants - so that you can catch up if you happen to miss any), plus various pieces to read (all fascinating), a bit of homework, and a support e-group."

"It is a strong group and I feel honoured to be part of it. It is a completely different experience to the workshops. It feels balanced, and my self awareness and way of life is improving every day. I feel it is making a marked difference to each of us on the group. Thank you, Duane, for making it possible."

Fiona Stephenson (Davis)

"Thank you for creating the Practitioner Training Online Course. The information I am learning in Prac 1 is everything I have been looking for in all of the spiritual growth workshops and courses that I have attended over the past twenty-five years."

"I am noticing that as I apply my Prac1 insights to my life and make small changes, my life seems to be blossoming out in lots of different areas. I feel a lot happier as a result."

"As well as being deep and meaningful, the course content is fascinating and fun, especially when I get together with my classmates online. I am recommending this transformational course to my associates and my friends."

In Gratitude,
Christina Joy
